All,
Thanks for a great season!!!!
The team did great this year, our swimmers set new records and improved
their times week after week. We finished second in our
division
and had a strong showing at Allstars. All results are on our
website and the PMSL website. Our coaching staff did a great
job
this season and we look forward to having them back again next year.
Here is some additional information for you:
If you are interested in the team photos from the meets, remember to
visit the kodak website. Allstars pics will be uploaded soon.
If you did not pick up team party awards, divisional t-shirts
(pre-orders only), or all-star awards they will be at the clubhouse
beginning Monday. Please ask the lifeguards if you can go in
and
get your items. PLEASE NOTE, THEY WILL NOT BE THERE
FOREVER.......
If you ordered Neptune clothing, Mary will send out a separate e-mail
when they are ready for distribution.
Anyone interested in a offseason/winter swim program, stay
tuned....Gregg will be getting information together shortly and it will
be distributed as soon as available.
Lastly, a special thankyou to all our parents/grandparents.
It is
a pleasure to be part of a team where there is such fantastic parent
cooperation and support for everyone on the team!!!
Doug Higgs

Information
MEETING MINUTES 7/18/05
Pool Committee Update: Mary
Lucian
Mary Lucian indicated that there are ongoing issues with cloudy water
that the pool staff is addressing using several techniques. It entails
flushing water from the pool; thus, there at times there will be large
hoses and big puddles at the pool for the next few days.
Coach Update: Coach Gregg
Cheverly Relays: Northridge will NOT participate in Cheverly Relays
this year.
1. College Park Woods
Meet: Coach Gregg
was pleased with the meet against College Park Woods even if we kinda
lost. He is not convinced the better
team won but they did swim better that day. He was also
pleased
with the active participation of 98% of the kids. Will try to move some
swimmers to different places
this weekend against Accokeek to shake things up.
2. Divisionals:
Divisionals on July 30th
at home will be very competitive. List of swimmers will be sent in an
email on Sunday.
3. Practice for
Divisionals: Please note
Monday, July 25 - evening practice; Tuesday thru Friday - Morning
Practice every day!!!!
4. Accokeek: Meet at
Clubhouse at 6:45!!!! According to MapQuest, it's a 50 minute drive.
Divisional Meet: Doug Higgs Update
1. Cheer: Be there to
cheer on our team even if your child/children aren't swimming!
2. Food:
Mary Hennemann will need
lots of food and assistance to feed everyone. She will email her
request out later this week (Sat. or Sun.) Look for
it!
3. Parents: July 25
Parent Meeting - please attend and/or volunteer
4. Volunteers are
Needed: Timers,
Runners, Judges - Sue Ann and Diane will contact volunteers directly.
5. Program: not
selling ad space due to time restraints, etc. Program will be for sale
at Meet.
6.
PARENT ACTION ITEM---T-Shirts:
White T-Shirts with team names and team players listed! Please email
Elise Miller to place your order NOW (
elisecmiller@comcast.net).
Bring a check to the Meet Saturday ($12 each or $13 for XL). No orders
taken will be taken after this Sunday (7/24) and
extremely limited (if at all) sales at
Divisional
Meet. Do it now!
7. Pool Records: a
number of team records
have been broken this season (go neptunes). This is a reflection of the
caliber of swimmers on our team and at
our pool (we are in a higher division than ever before!).
Pool
records will probably be broken at the Divisional Meet. So take a look
at the current records posted at the Pool. Your child may break his/her
own
record too! How cool is that?
Team Party and Awards Ceremony
1.
PARENT ACTION ITEM---
Thursday, July 28 at 7:00p.m. Please RSVP Mary Lucian (
marylucian@hotmail.com)
if you are coming or not and the number of people in your family who
will attend. Do it Today!
Thanks.
2. Unless you make
special arrangements
(gotta bring the famous potato salad handed down by Grandma Boehmer),
team volunteers will randomly assign food tasks to different
families. This will
happen today or tomorrow.
NORTHRIDGE NEPTUNES - PARENT MEETING MINUTES
Monday July 11, 2005
This Saturday's (July 16) meet is at College Park Woods Swim Club, 3545
Marlbrough Way, College Park, MD 20740, approximately 30
minutes
from Northridge.
Coach requests that we meet at the Northridge Clubhouse at 7:15am to
caravan over. Our team has warm up swim at 8:00am.
The meet
starts promptly at 8:30am.
Directions from PMSL handbook:
From the Beltway, take Rte 1 exit toward College Partk.
Follow
Rte 1 to 193 West and sign for Univ of MD Stadium, then turn
right. Turn right at first traffic light onto Metzerott
Rd.
Go 3/10 of a mile, turn right onto St. Andrew's Place. Follow
to
Marlbrough Way, turn right and continue to pool on the
right. There are also directions and a
Mapquest map
directions page.
Divisional Meet is on July 30 at our pool. We will need
everyone
to help in hosting the meet - set up and running the meet is bigger and
more complicated than the dual meets. More donations of food
and
beverages will be needed for the concession stand. But it's a
great opportunity for our community and swim team. We'll be talking
more about this at next Monday's meeting.
Gregg will identify swimmers who will be in the divisional meet by
Sunday evening, July 24.
We are invited to participate in the Cheverly Relays on July
31.
Gregg needs to know which swimmers will and will not be available to
swim in the relays so that he can decide if we have enough swimmers for
the events. Let him know by e-mailing NRST@yahoo.com.
Swim Team awards party will be on Thursday, July 28. Swimmers
and
their family members are invited. RSVP - Mary Lucian needs to
know how many people are coming to the party to plan for food
amounts. Please let her know as soon as you can.
Coach's Announcements:
This week's meet will be another close one. Coach asks that
parents encourage kids to stay with the team and cheer for teammates
for the duration of the meet. He was disappointed in the lack
of
cheering and difficulty keeping the kids together at the last meet and
asks for our support in this.
Gregg also talked about Divisionals and the Cheverly relays (see
above).
Treasurer Report:
Another excellent meet regarding profit at the food stand and through
the 50/50 raffle. I don't have the exact figures here, but
she
sent them to us in an e-mail. Just a little less than the
take at
the Hawthorne meet, which was very lively.
Marlton Meet:
Speaking of lively. You may have noticed a lot of discussion
at
the last week and murmurs about protests etc. Sue Anne
described
the disagreements that were going on regarding just a few of the events:
-On one, the Marlton team disagreed with a stroke/turn decision that
resulted in a disqualification. This was resolved.
-Another involved a case where a spectator saw one of our swimmers do
something they thought would merit a disqualification. None
of
the stroke/turn judges, nor the referee had seen it. So, no
call,
which is supported by the rules.
-The final controversy involved a single mistake in seeding at clerk of
course. A disagreement between times and sweep judge
determinations was also involved. The clerk of course issue
was
noted and the rule that sweep judge determinations in agreement rule
over times was reviewed with the Marlton team and seemed to be
resolved.

4.
Coach Gregg's Corner
·
The Coach was
very pleased overall with our first meet. Many swimmers dropped seconds
off their times and were very competitive for the most part (a-hem, see
Coach if you
need specific
information). Northridge made Bannister nervous and only lost
by
about 50 points. It was a great meet.
·
Volunteers are welcome, needed, and highly thought of.
·
Tuesday,
Thursday Morning Practices: older kids can stay and work on skills from
8:30-9:30 (mainly 15-18 year olds). See Coach if interested.
·

Practice: Coach will stick around after 9:30 to help swimmers work on
skills. All ages are welcome

Meeting Notes
1. League Meeting and
Training
- Meets will be 8:30
start; home team warm-ups will be 7:45-8:00, visitors will be 8:00 -
8:15. 8:15 pool cleared
- Host of Divisionals (that's us) is
Divisional Data
Manager(s) (Rick and Bob) ...confirmed that we will not be divisional
data manager, that job goes to the divisional chair not divisionals
host as I stated
- Divisional seeding Meeting is Sunday,
7/24; the
divisional data manager will be the host for the meeting; roster must
be submitted the next day. Meet is next
Saturday, 7/30 at Northridge.
- Rules for in water starts for those
pools whose
dept at both ends does not meet minimum standard - Caleb Principe will
clarify.
2. Coach Gregg - Meet
this Saturday and General Advice
FIRST MEET THIS SATURDAY,
JUNE 25
- Children cannot
swim with Neptunes until paperwork is received and entered into system.
Deadline is Wednesday, June 22nd.
- Best for children to eat fruit and
granola
bar-type breakfast on the way to the meet. Not good to feed them upon
arrival (too close to practice time) or allow them to arrive hungry.
- Meet at clubhouse at 6:45; leave at
6:55. Local
families are strongly encouraged to go via caravan. Mapquest
and
PMSL Directions are on Neptunes website.
- All children should check-in
with Ayanna upon
arrival. Parents with jobs need to also check in with Diane.
- Neptune Warm-Ups will be at 8:00 a.m.
All
participants are strongly encouraged to be at Bannister before that
time.
- Swimmers are to stay with the team,
not sit with
parents. Ask Ayanna/Gregg before they leave the designated area
(bathroom, snack, etc.).
GENERAL ADVICE FROM COACH
GREGG
* Encourage kids to practice their
skills, strokes,
etc., more often than at practice; for example during their leisure
swim time (eg, flip turns). Helps them improve and gain confidence.
* Keep everyone informed if your family
schedule changes. Contact Cornelia, email the team at
nrstswims@yahoo.com
ASAP if you have changes to your schedule that you did not make us
aware of with your registration form. We need to know if your
child (or you with a job) cannot make a meet. Thanks!
3. Volunteer Opportunities
General Advice:
A. If you volunteered for a job and cannot make your commitment, see
Diane immediately to let her know.
B. Check in with Diane upon arrival at
meet and tell her your job.
Confucious said: Volunteer for a job that you know you can handle; or
just wait to be volunteered for a job that overwhelms you, sucks the
life out of you, and generally makes you crazy.
* THIS SATURDAY (JUNE 25): Timers
needed. Talk
with Diane.
* NEXT SATURDAY, JULY 2: Head
Timer Needed.
* DIVISIONAL
MEET PLANNER - One Time Commitment; see Doug
* MERCHANDISE
COORDINATOR AT DIVISIONAL - valuable opportunity to help
raise funds for our team and work with other teams.
* ICE
(man
cometh?) - we really need big piles of ice for July 2, July 9, and
Divisional Meet on July 30. Any who donate will be recognized and a
letter of thanks sent at the
end of the
season. Great opportunity for an organization to show their
volunteerism. If you know of business owners who can
possibly support the team with
Ice for our meets, please let us know ASAP. We have HUGE
coolers
in the shed that can be used for the transportation
of ice.
* Team
Clothing…The
Neptune Clothing order form has been placed on the website.
We
need at least an order of 20 units of clothing to do the
order.
If you want team clothing,
please print the
form and give to Elise or Mary. If we get enough orders from
team
families we’ll let you know and collect
payments.
Update 6/9/05
We start the morning
schedule this
Thursday (June 9), see calendar also, big kids 7:30am, Jrs'.
8:30am. Remember mornings are Tuesday, Thursday, and
Friday. Evenings Monday and Wednesday.
- Parents please get suits ordered. Friday 6/10 is supposed
to be
last day. Swim Pro does have Saturday hours...see form on
website. They plan on imprinting "NRST" on the suits next week. You can
also
call in the order if you are comfortable with the sizing.
- There is a training for officials this weekend...here is the
information:
The PMSL officials clinic is this Saturday, June 11, 2005 at
University of Maryland Armory at 9:00 a.m. This is a
mandatory
meeting for all league reps. The southern Maryland
clinic
is June 18, 2005 at Fort Washington from 3-5 p.m.
It would be great if we can get more stroke and turn judges
and
people familiar with scoring...please send us a message if you were
able to attend and what training did you take.
- Get your registrations in.....We need to know who is swimming and
when they may be away. This is critical for our coach to
begin
thinking about seeding. Also, our data manager will need a team listing
for
official records. This is very important, get it in
even if
your check is not there yet.
- Coach mentioned that the Wednesday evening practice before our first
meet (June 22nd.) he will hold time trials. Please make every
effort to get all swimmers to
practice that night. Also, Diane will likely want to test out
the
watches and we will need parent volunteers to assist in the timing.
- Our first meet is Saturday June 25th, stay tuned for announcements
regarding meet times.
- There will be a parent meeting on Monday June 13th. One of
our
board members will lead the meeting as I will not be able to make it.
Thanks
Lot's to get done;
Doug
